20SB Compliments

tbr tangential: the perfect companion to a cup of tea.

Tom’s blog is a lot like Tom himself: charming,  erudite and always rounded off with amused, self-deprecatory humour. I stumbled upon him and his blog on 20sb, and it’s quickly become one of my favourites.

I often find myself reflecting on his posts months after they’ve been published. Like all good writing, it comes up with a startling accuracy when you’re dealing with similar contexts in your everyday life. It lends insight and allows you a new way in which to see yourself.

He would, no doubt, disagree strongly when his writing is likened to philosophy; but I can’t help but see it as such. It’s not complicated Nietzsche-style musings on the ways in which we lead our lives, but a rather more grounded approach to the realities of our humdrum existences. Humdrum, but still filled with glimmers of the extraordinary. If only you stopped to examine it.

Stop by Tom’s blog, it may be tangential; but it will always offer up something extraordinary to examine.

SaraSwearsALot makes me laugh a lot!

Miss Sara Elizabeth is a rare gem in the blogging world.  I happened upon her blog after reading a funny comment she put on a 20sb discussion board.  Halfway through the first post I was laughing so hard that I was near tears.  It’s the same with every post of hers.  Saraswearsalot is intelligent, well-written, sarcastic and hilarious.  I highly recommend it!

risha rao, you can read me anything

Risha says she is “twenty three, talkative, and insanely ambitious”. She forgot to add , “and I write exquisitely”.

I clicked on her link from the forum not too long ago, and was glad I did.

No matter what she writes it is compelling. I would know her without an “about” page, and that’s good writing.

From her post drops of jupiter, to her more recent post about Abu Dhabi, one can’t help but appreciate this blog and this writer.

If you haven’t checked her out you must do so. You won’t find a lot of sparkly pink flowers or social media icons, but you soon see there is no need for any of that there.

Cali is the best gater in my social network

I absolutely am in love with Cali Harris.  She is one amazing gater and even has a mascot. Her blog posts focus mostly on social entrepreneurship, life as a grad student, dance and other tchotchkes.  Don’t know what a tchotchke is?  Well, you should read her blog to find out. :)  In all seriousness, Cali is an amazing woman who is able to balance life as a grad student and a full time social enterpreneur like no one I’ve ever known.  She is supportive of those in her life on and offline.  She empowers her friends to be their very best.  She is inspiring and hard working and I absolutely adore her writing.

The Rest Is Still Unwritten……

Wish I was his pen.The way he sways it across that blank, soon to be marked, white paper from his moleskin journal on his desk. As he rubs his forehead, impatiently trying to get this thoughts well worded, he takes a glimpse at the pen on his hand and suddenly it takes over, jotting down those exact words he was trying to say. He feels confident once again; thanks to his pen…. The rest is still unwritten, oh how I wish I was his pen…

The Tao of Gradschool

I’ve been watching her blog develop from afar since I haven’t had a lot of time to participate in the blogosphere, but every time I visit just to check in, I see the rapid development in writing voice and community participation in Pixie658’s The Tao of Gradschool.

I’ve been on 20SB since the first 500 members, and I like to follow newbies when I can, because every once in a while, someone like her will really shine and make you proud to be a blogger.

Min-D from A Mind in Motown

Mindy, from A Mind in Motown, just plain rocks.  She pretty much always comments on the blogs she reads, she replies to all of her comments on her blog keeping a great dialogue, and her blog is always fresh and interesting.  She is also very active in the 20sb community forums.  And on top of all of this, you can get at least a smile from her profile picture, which in my opinion is quite ridiculous in a most hilarious way.

So kudos to Mindy for having a consistently solid blog, her infinite entertainment to her readers, and meaningful comments wherever she is present.  :)
